You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16:11)
In the midst of adversity and in the face of his enemies, David
praises God. He expresses his confidence that God will preserve
him, provide for him and give him
peace. As he concludes his expression of praise, he writes:
You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness
of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Listen carefully to this formula for joy that David gives us in
the last line of Psalm 16. There is a path in life that leads to joy and
pleasures. That path goes straight into the presence of God. It is when we spend time in
the presence of God that we experience the fullness of joy and pleasures forevermore.
That is because it is only in His presence that our problems are put in perspective,
our troubles are seen as temporary and our woes become an opportunity to worship.
The more we experience His presence the fuller will be our joy.
